Hi Colin,
thank you for the feedback! I cannot remember the jewelry shop. It's a shame how the porters are abused, I think it's also the responsibility of those booking the trips to check on the weight carried - but often too difficult to verify. In Nepal I was told that some porters (NOT working for trekking companies but transporting goods) are carrying up to 90kg and even 120kg. Unbelievable. Such a hard life.
Seems you made the most out of your Peru trip! I am glad you liked it.

I loved your report on hiking the Inca Trail. The toilets certainly are bad and to me there's no need for it. At Machu Picchu there is a fine jewelry shop right next to very clean toilets. Did you see the shop? It's a pity the walk is too busy to enjoy the hummingbirds and wildflowers. The new guide for you was very good to fill in at such short notice. Our tour included the porters carrying everything for us except our day packs. Porters have long been abused by tour companies. Even the tour we went on increased the weight each porter carried by 3kg taking the stuff carried on their backs to 33kg and they did that after they went through the passport entry point that checked the weights. I also would have liked to have climbed Huayna Picchu but got the wrong info on that. Instead I walked around to the Inca bridge (a gap in another trail which needs a plank to cross) and that was interesting. I would have liked, instead of all ruins, something recreated to show who the Incan people lived and what was inside their stone buildings. In Cusco an Incan museum, right next to the main Catholic Church, was the highlight for me..
